Win ECDIS training

Highlighting the need for comprehensive ECDIS training, in March we launched a global training campaign offering 100 bridge officers worldwide the chance to win a place on a generic ECDIS training course.

To give you an idea of the scale of the challenge, recent research found that bridge officers were least confident about the use of ECDIS, when compared with four other key bridge technology systems. The research, carried out by the Seafarers International Research Centre (SIRC), also showed that more than half of respondents had used ECDIS before completing any training ashore.

While there is no definitive figure for the number of mariners who require training, estimates suggest between 140,000 and 200,000 mariners will need to be trained in the next six years. While our campaign is just a drop in the ocean in terms of mariners trained, we hope that it will raise awareness of the significant challenge facing the industry.
If you are a qualified bridge officer working on international trading ships, and have not yet received generic ECDIS training – or you know someone in this situation who would like to enter – you can simply enter the promotion online for your chance to win.

Winners will be able to select the training institute that is most suitable for them, from a list of pre-vetted and accredited training institutes around the world.
