AWCS, which enables users to view official navigational charts online, has been developed in response to a requirement from shipping companies and the wider marine community whose shore-based teams use charts to support their planning and movement information for ships at sea.
AWCS offers an alternative to sharing paper charts and can be accessed from any internet connected PC, providing users with immediate access to worldwide charts that are constantly updated at the UKHO Server, meaning that they are always completely up to date.
It should be noted that AWCS is not intended as a primary means of navigation under SOLAS Regulations, and has been developed for shore-based use with a user interface similar to existing web mapping services, featuring standard tools such as drag, pan and zoom to navigate the charts in a standard web browser.
