With workshops completed at Asia Pacific Maritime, Sea Japan and Posidonia, we have already presented our interactive workshops to more than 350 people so far this year.
Asked about their priorities following the session, every audience said the same thing (by a significant majority): crew training. This has been the feedback from every workshop that we have held so far. At Asia Pacific Maritime, a Marine Manager at a shipping company told us: “My personal concern is how we can provide ECDIS training. Crew always change and it will be difficult to find such crew with enough qualifications.”
Captain Hailwood says that ship owners are right to be cautious and should start preparations as early as possible. One area of concern is making sure that the courses you choose (and the courses that your crew have been on) are properly accredited.
He goes on to explain: “I worked with a particular company which thought that all its officers had generic training. When we looked at the certificates, 60 per cent were invalid because they were completed at training centres which were not accredited by the flag state. The training courses had not been approved by the maritime authority so they were effectively worthless.”
Our free workshop covers training in detail and provides an opportunity to ask an expert in the process any questions you might have.
