As ever, we saw many impressive projects compete for the judges’ attention. However, the work carried out by Magsaysay Maritime Corporation and Anglo-Eastern Training Centre really stood out – with the companies taking turns at winning the category and being Highly Commended.
Philippines-based Magsaysay was named the winner of the Training Award at the Global Awards by UKHO’s Rear Admiral Nick Lambert, at an event at London’s Hilton Park Lane hotel in September. Becoming one of the key players in the region due to its approach to training, the judges felt that “Magsaysay successfully demonstrated a tangible contribution towards improving standards through their sustained investment and innovative approaches to crew development.” Anglo-Eastern was Highly Commended.
Anglo-Eastern won the Training Award at the Asia Awards in Hong Kong in October. Ian Moncrieff, Admiralty’s Chief Executive, presented the award, saying that the company’s long term investment to training in India and world-leading training standards “further the cause of safe and economical operation of vessels.”
Training continues to be a key priority in the maritime industry, and next year will see Admiralty working on a number of fronts to support and promote navigational and industry skills development. We’ll have more news for you on this in the next newsletter.
