Admiralty reveals 6 locations for its free Digital Integration Workshops

Are you ready for the new ECDIS regulations? We will pose this question to delegates around the world as we take our series of free Digital Integration Workshops to six locations this year – starting with Asia Pacific Maritime 2012 – in March.

The Workshops are designed to help ship managers effectively plan for the integration of digital technology into bridge operations to meet the requirements of the ECDIS Mandate. It addresses the key issues shipping companies are facing, and provides practical and easy-to-follow steps to overcome them.

Delegates receive a clear and comprehensive checklist for every stage of the ECDIS journey to help them with their own preparation. This checklist not only provides recommendations on managing the integration of paper and digital charts on the bridge, but also provides practical guidance through the whole transition process; from the initial fleet assessment, to understanding Flag State requirements, crew training and ECDIS installation.

The Digital Integration Workshop has been developed in partnership with Master Mariner and ECDIS consultant Capt. Paul Hailwood, whose insights helped to shape the UKHO’s original 10 Steps to Mandation guide, which has also now been updated.

A key message, says Captain Hailwood, is start planning now; “It’s easy to underestimate how long the transition to digital navigation will take, until you fully understand what ECDIS compliance requires. I’ve worked with many companies where the process has taken twice as long as first thought, resulting in a variety of operational issues. To avoid these problems shipping companies need definitive answers about the integration process to enable them to prepare effectively. The Workshops are designed to be the definitive resource to set them on the right course.”

The Singapore Workshops will take place at Asia Pacific Martime, Sands Expo & Convention Center in the Marina Bay Sands on the 14th (at 11.00hrs), 15th (at 17.00hrs) and 16th March 2012 (at 11.00hrs). Attendance is free, but spaces are limited and anyone wishing to attend should register via the online registration form.

• Mumbai, India on 17-18 April;
