Fleet AWNIS Unit

AWNIS delivers, to military commanders and the merchant marine, assurance against the additional risks to Safety and Security of Navigation that are associated with maritime operations. It is responsible for both classified and unclassified safety and security of navigation information. Wherever the military impinges on the maritime there is a requirement for AWNIS.

UK Maritime Trade Operations

Allied Worldwide Navigation Information System (AWNIS)

AWNIS, and its management by DMGIC, is a core part of The Comprehensive Approach due to the importance placed, by the maritime community, on the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), Safety of Navigation and the relevance of maritime trade and ‘just in time’ logistics in the modern world.

The AWNIS capability in the UK is delivered by the Royal Navy Reserve in conjunction with Naval Cooperation and Guidance to Shipping (NCAGS) to form the UK Maritime Trade Operations Capability.  This capability is able to deploy (and has deployed) to meet operational requirements in all types of operations including NEO, Amphibious Warfare, CIMIC, Anti Piracy, Anti Terrorism, and MCM.
