 Working at the UKHO

A Range of Possibilities

Most of our staff, including some serving naval officers, are based at our headquarters in Taunton, Somerset. They work in a number of roles, including specialist scientific branches, defence, management, accounting, survey processing, mapping and charting, project management, sales and marketing, HR, PR, printing and logistics. Some of our specialist areas have become internationally recognised Centres of Excellence.

Because we’re a Trading Fund of the Ministry of Defence our employees benefit from civil service status but also enjoy the challenge and stimulation of a commercial environment.

As an Investor in People, we offer excellent training opportunities from the induction and acquaint courses to professional development and further education. In addition to job training our dedicated management and cartographic teams also offer help with and encourage learning and career development.

We genuinely believe that ‘motivated people are the key to success’ and have a policy of promoting from within wherever possible.

We’re working to increase the diversity of our workforce with a number of family friendly policies:

  • Flexible working hours to help staff manage their working day around domestic commitments
  • On-site crèche, gym and subsidised staff restaurant
  • Wide range of clubs and groups sharing hobbies and interests.

Upon starting, we offer 25 days’ leave a year, 10.5 public and privilege holidays and a choice of attractive pension schemes.
